FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Once you sign up, I’ll reach out to you directly to have a pre-trip call where we can go over everything. If you have any other questions in the meantime, send me an email.

  • When is your next retreat?
TBA! Follow my Instagram for updates.

  • What is the best way to get to Salmon, Idaho?
Depends on where you’re coming from and if you want to carpool or not. Each year, we help organize a carpool from Salt Lake City and 50% of our participants go that route.

If you’re flying from another part of the country, the best option is to call 1-800-453-1482 or email Action White Water and ask about the “Boise to Boise” package. You’ll just need to fly into Boise and the rafting company will help set up a hotel for the night before and after the trip, as well as getting you a shuttle to and from the airport.

  • Do you recommend coming in a day or two early to get into town?
Yes! If you’re driving to Salmon, ID we have a meeting on the lawn at The Stagecoach Inn (see below for more details on lodging, but it’s where most people stay, including myself) the night before we take off for the river. Meaning everyone driving to Idaho should plan on being to the Stagecoach Inn by 6:00 p.m. on August 28th, 2022. This meeting covers A LOT. You get to meet some of the guides, get your dry bag and ammo can, and you get filled in on a lot of details - both for the river and for the retreat concepts/themes. I also go around and help people pack and figure out what gear is helpful and what can be left in your car. If you do their Boise-to-Boise package (meaning you are flying in), they'll know what to do to make sure you get in on time.

  • What’s the lodging situation?

    • On the river, we’ll be camping. But it’s so mellow, I think of it more like glamping and the river company provides everything you need from sleeping bags, sleeping cot, and tents.

    • For the night before, you will need to book lodging in Salmon, ID. In Salmon, I like to stay at the Stagecoach Inn (usually comes in around $129 - $150, but varies based on season). There are also airbnbs, Super 8s, and a few other motel/hotels. Again, you need to be there by 6:00 p.m. on August 28th.

    • For those flying, you’ll spend the night before in Boise and we’ll meet you in morning at the put-in.

    • For the night we land in McCall, I recommend you stay the night in the town. It's so cute and most of us will be staying there that night. I like to stay at the Third Street Inn ($100 - $150, but varies based on season). Again, there are airbnbs and other motel/hotels around if Third Street is booked up.

    • For those flying, the river company will take care of your lodging in McCall and shuttling you back to the airport.

  • With the retreat ending in McCall, how do I get back?
If you are driving, there is about a $300 shuttle fee per car to get the car from Salmon to McCall that needs to be paid to Action. They will also require you to leave $60 in cash under the floor mat of your car in case of emergencies or if they need to fill up. You’ll need to get this organized with whoever you are carpooling with.

If you are flying in, the transportation back to the hotel from the airport should be handled in your Boise to Boise package.

  • Are there any additional expenses?

    • Bring cash as for a tip for the guides. Something is better than nothing here, but I usually bring $100-$200 which will be for their work for the full 5 day experience. Also, bring some cash for a treat at Buckskin Bills.

    • $300ish shuttle fee (mentioned above)

    • Hotels the night before and after (mentioned above)

  • Can I get a refund of my deposit?

Unfortunately, no. Action White Water does not provide any refunds. If you are needing some flexibility. They recommend Travelex Travel Insurance, which they include in their email once you book.

  • What are the "bathroom" facilities?
Glad you asked! We use something called a 'groover,' and it's a super sanitary outdoor toilet.

  • What kind of food do you provide? Do you accommodate for dietary restrictions?
The food is great, and the company is pretty familiar with dietary restrictions. We've got a few folks with them on this trip. I know they've had a tough time with Vegan accommodations in the past, but I would reach out to them directly if you have any specific needs. You can learn more at their site here.

Also, you are welcome to bring / have us pick up extra stuff if you need.

  • Other than insects, are there any other wild animals I should be aware of that could be encountered?
Nothing really to worry about other than mosquitoes and wasps, so if you're allergic, please let me know.

  • How can I be reached in a family emergency?
You won't have service on the river, but the raft company has a special phone that your family/you would be able to call on or to if needed.
